lucky

lately i have been thinking how lucky (blessed is more like it) i have been. i've been really worried about how i am going to pay for school, and trying to find scholarships to help pay for it. not having a job makes it even harder to earn money, but Sherrie and Amy have been so awesome having me babysit for them! :) even though i don't have a job, i have had so many opportunities to earn money for school, and i am so grateful for them! after i stressing out about it for awhile, i had tons of babysitting jobs lined up! it's always so amazing to me how much the Lord knows us and what we need. i was really hesitant to get a loan just because i wasn't exactly sure how i would be able to make payments on it and pay it back. well, my worries are over because......i got a scholarship! i can't even describe how excited i was when i got the news! In the fall, i was on the Student Honor Council. A friend from a few classes was the director asked me to be in it at the end of the summer semester since we had worked on a committee that semester (the summer). i was a little nervous because she had asked me because of my experience with graphic design and she said i was really good (i think i'm totally inexperienced...you should see what some people can do, it's amazing!) but i figured that it would be a really good opportunity for me, so i said yes. for fall, we worked on new ways to campaign next year's slogan for the honor code and to find new ways to advertise for it. it was really fun and i got to meet new people, but the best part was that i really understood why byu-i has an honor code. to be honest, i wasn't always a fan of it. i mean, i never understood why we couldn't wear flip flops or shorts to class. i could understand most of the other rules just because they were the same one's we've heard all our life. but after being on the council i was able to gain an appreciation for the honor code. weird, i know.

anyway...i think i'm rambling. :) i got an email from my friend who was the director when i was on the council telling me to call someone because he had some questions for me about student honor council. so i called the guy up, and he asked me if i was calling to apply for the director's position. (if you are a director for student honor you can get a scholarship) i had planned on applying in the summer of this year so that i could try and get my last semester for free with the scholarship...but i figured i might as well try for this semester! so i did the phone interview and i felt like such an idiot because at times i was so nervous and i was talking really fast and it wasn't making any sense...but he sent me an application to fill out. so i filled out the application and hoped that maybe my writing would save my rambling speech on the phone! 2 hours later, he calls me back and was just chattin' it up with me and i was just thinking to myself that he was going to let me down easy. (i really wasn't planning on getting the scholarship just because it was such late notice) then he was like, "can i be honest with you?" and i told him he could, and then he told me how there were a lot of people who had applied for this position, and he had pretty much a list of all the people to choose from, but then he interviewed me and that i bumped people off the list! then he asked me how i felt about being the director for student outreach (there are 3 different director positions) and of course i said yes! i was just so shocked that i had been chosen! it was definitely an answer to my prayers, as well as my parents! i am so grateful for this opportunity, and i am so happy!

  1. That's SO awesome, Kellers! So much better than just saying you got a scholarship on facebook. You earned a scholarship because of your amazing-ness... and you earned it good! :) Congratulations!! Love you!
